The TLC Pet Pro Program is designed to integrate seamlessly into your existing business and enrich the experience of bringing home a new pet for both you and your pet parents. Recognizing that every pet professional has a unique approach to finding fur-ever homes for their puppies and kittens, we’ve gathered the following tips that can be used no matter your process.
Following these “Go Home Day” best practices can increase your success with the Program and ensure that more of the pets in your care continue receiving the superior-quality nutrition found in every bite of TLC long after they’re brought home.

#1 -Introduce Nutrition and Your Choice to Feed TLC Early
Personalize Your Reasons for Feeding and Recommending TLC
As a pet professional, your expertise and guidance are pivotal in helping pet parents make informed decisions about their pet’s diet. Sharing your reasons for choosing TLC Pet Food can greatly influence pet parents. Whether it’s the high-quality ingredients, the breed-specific benefits, or the professionally formulated recipes, your endorsement matters.
Educate Pet Parents On the Importance of Nutrition
Talk about nutrition with your pet parents early in the process and, whenever possible, before they bring their new furry family member home. This gives you the chance to learn their feelings about nutrition, share your own experience with TLC Pet Food, and answer any questions they might have.
The purpose of speaking about TLC Pet Food and nutrition with your pet parents is to educate them. With so many pet food options available today, it’s more important than ever to ensure they understand the role that diet plays in their pet’s health, happiness, and well-being.

#2 -Enhance The Experience of Bringing Home A New Pet with Social Media
Create Excitement Around “Go Home Day”
Social media is a powerful tool for engaging with pet parents. Use it to build excitement around “Go Home Day” by walking them through what that day will look like and sharing preparation tips, such as ordering TLC Pet Food before they arrive to pick up their new pet.
Include a clip showing off TLC Puppy/Kitten Packs, explaining they’ll receive them when they bring home their new family member. Pull out what’s included, like the nutritional information for each TLC Whole Life Pet Food formula, and highlight the Information for Your Vet piece.

Create Authentic and Creative Content
Share your journey and experiences with TLC Pet Food from your perspective. Include TLC in your posts where it makes the most sense. Original and authentic content always performs better than something scripted (meaning it will land in front of more eyeballs and have a greater impact).
Post photos and videos of your pets enjoying their meals at feeding times. Share success stories of pets thriving on TLC and show your pups happily transitioning to their first solid food. This not only showcases your expertise but also builds trust with your audience.

#3 -Manage Your Litters and Enter Pet Parents into Pet Manager
Keep You and Your Pet Parents Organized
Using Pet Manager effectively increases the chances your pet parents will place their first order with TLC, helping to increase your earnings and ensure the pets in your care continue their superior-quality diet.
Pet Pros who use Pet Manager experience 2 X the number of new referrals compared to Pet Pros who don’t.
If you can, enter pet parents into Pet Manager 3-5 weeks before their expected “Go Home Day.” This allows enough time for pet parents to place their first order before “Go Home Day”, and coincides with the excitement that bringing home a new pet will bring.
Once entered, pet parents receive timely information through curated emails that direct them to place or schedule their first order through your personalized TLC web page. They will also receive $5 off their first order and a free personalized dog tag!

Pro Tip: It’s never too late—Enter your pet parents into Pet Manager according to what makes sense for your business.
Emails triggered by Pet Manager deliver relevant content based on when owners are entered compared to their Go Home Date. If you have pet parents picking up their new pets the “same day”, or have pet parents who recently went home, enter them into Pet Manager as soon as you’re able.
Use Pet Manager to track which pet parents have created a TLC account, placed their first order, and signed up for Autoship!
#4 -Make Placing Their First Order with TLC Easy
Plan Ahead and Highlight Autoship
For the best results, aim to have your pet parents place or schedule their first order with TLC Pet Food 7 days before their expected to bring their new pet home. Ordering early checks one more thing off your pet parent’s ‘to-do’ list, and ensures they won’t run out of TLC after bringing home their fur-baby.
Preparing for homecoming presents the perfect opportunity to encourage your pet parents to schedule their first order using Autoship. Autoship allows your pet parents to schedule their TLC deliveries to arrive when they need them. Visit our retail website to Learn More About Autoship and share the benefits with your pet parents!
Have the URL to Your Personalized TLC Web Page On Hand

Send it through text, email, via social media and let them know when they place or schedule their first order through your link, they’ll automatically receive $5 off their first order at checkout, Plus, they’ll have a chance to claim their FREE personalized gift after their order has been submitted.
Pro Tip: Create a QR code from the URL to your personalized TLC web page.
Store it on your phone, print a copy and frame it to be kept somewhere you’ll be meeting with your pet parents, or get creative and send them home with your pet parents. Have the QR code available for pet parents to scan from their phones if they arrive for “Go Home Day” and haven’t placed or scheduled their first order yet.
This will bring them directly to your TLC web page where they can quickly create their accounts and place or schedule their order.
Your TLC sales rep is happy to create a QR code for you. Please feel free to contact them if you haven’t received one.

#5 - Being Prepared for an effective "Go Home Day"
Have a "Go Home Day" Checklist
The big day has arrived for your pet parents and no matter your process, there’s a lot of important information to review together. Create a simple checklist to ensure you cover the most important topics with every pet parent. Here are just a few things you might include on your list:
- Review the pet's medical history and where they can locate medical records (ie., the TLC Health Journal)
- Prepare new pet parents with what they can expect during the first few weeks (behavior to expect, tips for managing behaviors, changes in stool, sleep schedules, etc.,)
- Basic grooming and care instructions
- Review the TLC Puppy or Kitten Pack and its contents
- Discuss TLC and nutrition (where and how to place their first order if they haven't done so, where and who to contact if they have questions or concerns about the food)
- Where can they find resources and support (Facebook groups, your website, TLC Pet Service, etc.)
Preparing for the First Vet Visit
On “Go Home Day,” ensure pet parents have all the information they need for their vet. Make sure they know where to locate the “Information for Your Vet” brochure found in their puppy pack, along with the Health Journal for their pet.
Remind them that TLC Pet Service is available to answer any questions they or their vet might have.

Handling "Same Day" Pick Ups
When there isn’t a lot of time between meeting a pet parent and “Go Home Day”, it’s important to cover essential topics, like nutrition, and your recommendation to feed TLC Pet Food and the reasons why. Have your URL or QR code readily available so, if they’d like, they can place their first order while with TLC Pet Food while with you.
If they aren’t ready to place their first order, send them home with enough TLC Pet Food to get them through until they are.
#6 - Being Available for Follow-Up
Ongoing Support and Communication
Regular follow-ups and check ins with your pet parents allows you to answer questions and alleviate concerns that may arise during the first few weeks after bringing home a new pet. A great idea is to host a Facebook page or group open to your pet parents where they can share updates, post questions/concerns and discuss with your community.
Most importantly, encourage your pet parents to contact you if they have any questions or concerns after bringing their pet home. You are the expert for the animals in your care and can provide a wealth of valuable knowledge and guidance.
Pro Tip: If your pet parent has questions or concerns about TLC Pet Food that you aren’t able to answer, direct them to our knowledgable TLC Pet Service Team who is ready and happy to help!
