Yes, all TLC Pet Food formulas adhere to AAFCO guidelines. In order for a pet food to be considered “complete and balanced”, it must meet the nutritional standards established by AAFCO. These nutritional adequacy standards are defined by nutrient profiles:
- Adult maintenance
- Growth and reproduction
- All life stages
- Formulas developed for “All life stages” are meant for both growth/reproduction and adult maintenance.

YES – WSAVA (aka the World Small Animal Veterinary Association) is not a regulatory body and does not certify or endorse pet food companies. It does have a list of helpful questions intended assist pet parents in making informed decisions about the food they feed their pets and TLC aligns with every one. - Who formulates TLC Pet Food?
All TLC Pet Food is formulated by a professionally trained nutritionist holding Masters degrees in Animal Science and Nutrition from accredited North American Universities. Our nutritionists are available to answer questions submitted to the Service team and are committed to continuous improvement based on leading scientific research.
- Where is TLC made?
TLC Pet Food is made in a plant located in Ontario, Canada, with some of the most rigorous quality control standards in the industry, including a specific set of quality and performance standards to prevent safety hazards like cross-contamination. Our plant is certified by the CFIA, FDA, USDA, EU, and BRCGS (Brand Reputation through Compliance Global Standards).
- Where are your ingredients sourced?
All ingredients used in TLC Pet Food are independently sourced from trusted farms and suppliers. Each ingredient has been responsibly raised, caught or grown and all of our suppliers are based in Canada and the U.S., with the exception of:
- Green-lipped mussels and lamb, sourced from New Zealand and chosen for their superior quality
- Atlantic Salmon, sourced from a sustainable fishery in Norway
- Do TLC formulas undergo feeding trials?
TLC Pet Food conducts regular feeding trials in compliance with the guidelines laid out by AFFCO, testing for digestibility, stool volume/quality, and palatability. Feeding trials are conducted over a 26 week period and include 8 animals
- What quality control measures do your formulas undergo?
Every ingredient used in TLC Pet Food is ethically sourced from responsible suppliers committed to quality and safety. Each ingredient is carefully inspected and tested by experienced scientists using comprehensive in-house laboratories before entry into our facility for use in our formulas. Quality and safety assurances are continued throughout the cooking process and packaging of our food, testing for vomitoxin, aflatoxin, and Enterobacteriaceae, along with NIR (Near Infrared) confirmation of nutritional integrity. This means that every batch of TLC has undergone stringent testing before leaving our facility and arriving to your home. The quality and safety procedures used in our manufacturing facilities are evaluated regularly in order to retain certification by the CFIA, USDA, EU, FDA, and BRCGS.
- Is the meat used in TLC USDA inspected?
Yes! All of the meat meals used in TLC Pet Food are made from whole parts of the animal like breast, thigh, liver, etc.,
All meat used in our food is fit for human consumption and comes from animals that have passed USDA inspection (meaning they are NOT made from 4D animals aka “Dead, Diseased, Disabled or Dying).
All meat meals used in TLC are named (ie., chicken meal = 100% chicken, etc) and are free of animal waste, like feathers, heads, entrails, beaks, feet, etc.,
- Where are the vitamins and minerals used in TLC sourced from?
TLC uses both naturally occurring and added vitamins and minerals in our food. The vitamin premixes added to TLC have been carefully selected for their nutritional benefits and are sourced from trusted Canadian suppliers. They are expertly formulated to contain balanced and safe amounts of each vitamin and mineral. In addition, our batching, inventory, personnel expertise, and lab testing procedures ensure all vitamin and mineral ingredients are created as the formula intends.. Every batch of vitamin and mineral premix undergoes stringent inspection before entering our facilities.
- How is TLC preserved?
TLC and all of the ingredients used in TLC are naturally preserved using ingredients like mixed tocopherols, vitamin E, and rosemary extract. TLC Pet Food does not use controversial preservatives like ethoxyquin, BHA (Butylated Hydroxyanisole), BHT (Butylated Hydroxytoluene), TBHQ (Tertiary Butylhydroquinone), and Menadione Sodium Bisulfite (a synthetic form of vitamin K3)
- Has TLC Pet Food ever experienced a recall?
No. Since our founding in 1994, TLC has never experienced a mandatory or voluntary recall.
